Saturday evening, the Register’s Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) officials announced a northern route for the summer of 2017 that will take riders through Orange City, Spencer, Algona, Clear Lake, Charles City, Waukon and Lansing. During the summit, several people were recognized for their commitment to RAGBRAI. Denison Chief of Police, Daniel Schaffer had spent 14 years with the Iowa State Patrol on a special enforcement team and was a familiar face during the ride. He was one of those recognized on Saturday.
Schaffer continues to be supportive of RAGBRAI, even though he will no longer be a member of that enforcement team.
Schaffer, who was appointed Denison’s Chief in September of last year, said he is happy to be back in the Denison area and is looking forward to having RAGBRAI go through his community again soon.
