Denison Man Arrested After Hit-And-Run Saturday Night In Carroll

A Denison man was arrested after leaving the scene of a car accident in Carroll on Saturday evening. At approximately 7:16 p.m., 51-year-old Paul Thuok Wechtuor was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on 18th Street. While attempting to make a right-hand turn onto Highridge Road, Wechtuor left his lane and struck the front and driver side of a 2008 Hyundai Sonata, driven by a 16-year-old Carroll resident that was stopped at the posted stop sign at the intersection. Wechtuor left the scene, and the teenager tried to follow as he notified the Carroll Police Department about the accident. Wechtuor claims he did not recall being involved in a traffic accident, but he was arrested for operating while intoxicated—third offense, driving while license revoked, open container, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain control and two Carroll County warrants for contempt of court. A passenger in the Wechtuor vehicle, 43-year-old Tut Jock Jany of Denison, was charged with open container and littering. There was an estimated $2,500 in damages to the Sonata and $1,500 to Wechtuor’s car.
