Democrat In Race To Challenge Steve King For Congressional Seat Bills Himself As King’s Opposite

J.D. Scholten, one of the Democratic candidates hoping to challenge District 4 incumbent, Steve King, in the midterm elections, is presenting himself as the opposite to King in many ways. Scholten tells constituents that, in his viewpoint, his methods and ideas are meant to bring people together. He describes King’s policies and rhetoric as divisive, but he does not believe that is the norm for Republicans.

Scholten cites an example where he believes King is not looking out for the Fourth District’s interests.

According to Scholten, King’s focus seems to be on issues which do not directly influence the district. He says a congressperson should be focused on issues that affect constituents closer to home.

Scholten, a former minor league baseball player and competitor, adds this all just drives him to campaign even harder. He is running against three other Democratic candidates, Paul Dahl, Leann Jacobsen and John Paschen, vying for the top spot in the Iowa Democratic Caucus on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018.
