Crop Report Shows Wet Conditions Slowing Field Work For Area Farmers

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, says the statewide average for last week shows only a little over a half of a day suitable for fieldwork, and though the recent wet weather has kept farmers from starting in the field, there has been some fertilizer application taking place. The weekly crop report also shows only six percent of oats have been planted to date, which is nearly a week behind the five-year average. Livestock reports are generally good, with calving already complete for some operations, although muddy lots are becoming an issue.
