City Of Denison Acts Quickly To Stop And Clean Wastewater Discharge

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reports approximately 5,000 gallons of wastewater was discharged near the Denison Elementary School on Saturday. City officials became aware of the problem at approximately 3 p.m., and responded quickly to unplug a sewer line, vacuum up the pooled discharge and disinfect the area. A follow-up inspection was performed by the DNR on Monday, and they have determined the city did an adequate job of cleaning the manhole area. Enforcement action will be considered if deemed appropriate.
