The City of Carroll will be conducting an investigation into three water main breaks on West 6th Street last week. The first of the breaks in the 10-inch iron duct, on Monday, Aug. 14, was the most severe of the three, with a large hole and crack that travelled along a lengthy segment of the pipe. Crews said there was also evidence of advanced deterioration in that area of the nearly 5,000 foot long main that was installed to serve the GE plant. The main breaks on Thursday, Aug. 17 and Friday, Aug. 18 were much smaller, with only holes appearing in each and much less deterioration surrounding the breached areas. After the completion of the investigation, city staff will work to determine whether more maintenance or replacement will be required.
