After 108 years, area Cubs fans are getting some opportunities of a lifetime, not only the chance to win a trip to this year’s spring training in Mesa, Ariz. through the Carroll Broadcasting giveaway, but to also see and have their photo taken with the World Series Trophy. The Chicago Cubs’ trophy has been making the rounds in Chicago and Washington, D.C. and on this Wednesday, Feb. 1, it will be showcased for fans at Principal Park in Des Moines. Die-hard fans need to get there early as the viewing will only be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The first 500 fans at the door will be issued a wristband to ensure their ability to see the trophy and remaining fans will be able to get in if time permits. The trophy will be coming in from Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Mason City stops on Tuesday, Jan. 31, before arriving at Principal Park on Wednesday.
