CCSD Meal Prices See Small Increase For 2017-18 School Year

Student meal prices within the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) are going up by a small margin beginning in the 2017-18 school year. Lunches are increasing by 10 cents for all age groups. CCSD Food Service Director, Sara Anderson, recommended the changes to the board as a result of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which requires school food authorities participating in the National School Lunch Program to provide the same level of support for lunches served to students who are not eligible for free or reduced lunches as fort those that are eligible. Business Manager, Gary Bengtson, says the district’s lunch prices are too low and must be raised to meet federal regulations.

According to the law, if the difference in lunch prices is too high, the district must gradually increase its prices. Lunch for kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through eighth, and ninth through 12th will now change to $2.50, $2.60 and $2.70, respectively. No student meal prices will increase by more than 10 cents, but meals for staff saw a slightly higher bump of 15 cents. Bengtson indicated changing the pricing now helps the administration make the proper adjustments

The Board of Directors unanimously approved the decision, and it will go into effect on July 1, the first day of fiscal year 2018. Some minor alterations in breakfast pricing were also included in the change, and a table of the changes can be found included below this story
