CCSD Is In Good Fiscal Position, But Possible State Funding Changes Causes Concerns For Future

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Directors reviewed the district’s current financial standing by evaluating the seven most important indicators of fiscal stability during their Monday night meeting. Superintendent Rob Cordes, only has concerns with one of those seven factors.

In fiscal year 2015, CCSD’s change in salaries to benefits ratio was -0.92 percent, but in FY2016 the gap grew to 5.19 percent. Cordes noted that it is hard to say for sure how it will impact future budgets exactly.

He also pointed out that growth, if any, in supplemental state aid will not be enough in the future. The district is guaranteed $113,247 in FY2018, but new state money drops nearly $70,000 in 2019 if yearly aid growth stays at two percent.

Cordes says the district is at about the average compared to the other schools across the state.

The board will begin to set the budget for next year during a work session tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 9.
