CCSD Board Of Directors Approve $36.5 Million Certified Budget

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) board of directors voted unanimously to approve a certified budget of $36.5 million for fiscal year 2018 during a special meeting Wednesday afternoon. The approved budget requires a tax levy of $10.37 per $1,000 of taxable valuation, an increase of $1.28 from last year. More than half comes from the $0.67 voter-approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy for the stadium reconstruction project. The board raised rates for the cash reserve fund by 10 cents, the dropout prevention fund by 30 cents and the management fund by two cents. Superintendent, Rob Cordes, says the cash reserve increased from unexpected costs last year.

The other major hike was in dropout prevention. Cordes explains how that money is used for more than just salaries and supplies.

Two other funds also saw increases. A 17 cent increase to the controlled budget and two cents to the instructional support fund. The board does not control those levy amounts as they come from the state. No public comments, written or in person, were received, and paperwork will now be filed with the County Auditor and State Department of Management. The 2018 fiscal year begins July 1.
