Carroll’s Railroad Crossings Now Open To Traffic

Pictured: Union Pacific crews work to repair a train coupling which had broken under stress.

Railroad crossings in Carroll were blocked for nearly an hour and a half Tuesday afternoon while crews worked to return a stopped train to operation. The crossings became blocked shortly after 3 p.m. when the coupling between two Union Pacific Railroad cars failed under stress near the Clark St. intersection, leaving the train in two separate sections. Union Pacific crews worked at the scene until the broken coupling was replaced. The train started moving again at approximately 4:30 p.m. The blockage was originally believed to be caused by a minor train derailment. No injuries were reported during the incident.
