The Carroll Payless Shoesource is on the list of stores closing after the company announced a filing for restructuring on Tuesday. Payless intends to proceed through the filing by declaring bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to reduce its debt load and gain access to additional capital. Along with the Carroll location in Citicentre Plaza, nearly 400 other stores across the country are also shutting their doors. A timeline for the Carroll store has not yet been set and the company has stated, “We will make every effort to offer open positions at nearby stores to associates whose store is closing. If there is not an available opening, Payless associates will receive severance pay and, if eligible, benefits to help in their career transition.” The number of affected employees has not yet been released. One other location in Iowa will be closing as a result, the Kimberly Commons Payless store in Davenport. A full list of stores closing can be found below.
