A Carroll man convicted on six counts of sexual abuse in the third degree in 2014 has filed yet another notice of appeal in that case. Thirty-nine-year-old Steve Thomas Schneider, who was sentenced to 40 years in prison, had his latest application for post-conviction relief denied just this past July 31. This latest notice for appeal was filed early this (Monday) morning. Schneider has been chasing appeals since his sentencing, some of which have made it all the way to the Iowa Supreme Court, but the courts have upheld that decision in 2015 and 2016 and again in 2017 amidst Schneider’s claims of ineffectual council and that the dates of the offenses for which he was charged were amended. Schneider was convicted of having a sexual relationship in early 2009 with his then 14-year-old niece.
