The Carroll Police Department is a giant step closer to reaching their $20,000 fundraising goal after a large donation from the Carroll Hy-Vee for the purchase of a new K-9 unit. Store Director, Brad Auge, presented a $5,000 check this afternoon (Friday) to Police Chief, Brad Burke, and his fellow officers. Auge says as members of the community, his staff is proud to help the cause.

Nearly $18,500 has been raised so far. Burke was aware of the donation before Friday but did not know how large the donation would be.

Burke notes that while they are very close to their goal, people still have time to donate.

Fundraising efforts began earlier this year after four Carroll High School sophomores, Merkl Kuach, Kayd Nissen, Tyler Tuning and Tyler Comstock, used the idea for a school project. The Carroll Police Department has not had a K-9 unit in service since 2007. A 32-week-old Belgian Malinois is already in training at Canine Tactical in Charitan and is expected to begin service around Thanksgiving.
