An inmate at the Carroll County jail needed to be transported to the hospital following an attack by another prisoner earlier this week. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Darren Joseph Cox assaulted Damon Derrick Shaw at approximately 3:24 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 by striking him in the face at least three times with a closed fist. Shaw was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries to his nose and eyes. Cox is being held on a possession with intent to deliver—methamphetamine charge, a class C felony, and is now charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear in District Court for Carroll County on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
