Carroll County Farm Lease Being Opened For Bids

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors will be seeking a new tenant for the farmland surrounding the former county home north of Carroll. The current tenant, Chad Kanne of Carroll, notified the supervisors prior to the Sept. 1 deadline that he was not interested in renewing the lease at the current terms of just over $373 per tillable acre. This was expected, according to Neil Bock.

Last year’s lease was the first time in the recent past that the supervisors had moved from a three-year to a one-year lease because of questions about what would happen with the county home. Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, asked whether they preferred to leave it at one year or go back to the three-year option on the 111.6 acres, which includes 98.1 tillable acres. Bock provided his opinion.

The other supervisors agreed, and decided they will be putting out notices of the lease opportunity on three different dates with a deadline of Nov. 1 for bids to be received. In 2016, five bids were submitted for the property with Kanne’s winning bid totaling $36,600.01.
