Carroll City Council Will Talk City And All-Inclusive Parks And Give Recognition To Group That Brought Euodoris To Carroll

The Carroll City Council meeting on Monday, Dec. 11, will be starting off with special recognition for four Carroll High School Students. This past spring, sophomores Tyler Tuning, Tyler Comstock, Merkl Kauch and Kayde Nissen, proposed a project to raise money for a new Carroll Police Department K-9 unit. That fundraising idea took off, and Eudoris was placed into service at Thanksgiving. These young men will be recognized with the new K-9 and his handler, Officer Justin Ferrin. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says that the presentation of another award will also take place at the beginning of the meeting.

The council will also appoint the 2018 Carroll Fire Department officers as well as make appointments to other commissions and boards. Pogge-Weaver says several of the council members have asked for a slower pace to the budgeting process. To accommodate this request, they are beginning budget reviews earlier than normal.

There has been a group of individuals from the Northeast Park area requesting changes to park hours. Currently, all parks close at midnight. The Parks and Recreation Board met earlier this week and are recommending some changes.

Pogge-Weaver says the council will have their first discussion on considering this change, and explains the reason there would be a different time for one park over the others.

And speaking of parks, John Heim, representing Miracle League, and Joel Lundstrom will give more information about the Miracle League field that has been proposed by Pat and Alie Tigges as an addition to the Kellan’s Kingdom all-inclusive playground. They will give an overview of the uses for the baseball/softball field, as well as describe the types of custom-designed materials that make the diamond wheelchair and assertive device compatible. They will present a breakdown of the $470,000 estimated cost of the field and how they hope to schedule funding as a private and public partnership. The meeting will convene at 5:15 p.m. Monday in the council chambers at City Hall. Copies of all packet materials can be found below.
