“Can-oe” Help Out Some Hungry Kids This Summer? It’s Easy At Lake View Fundraiser Saturday

For the past several years the East Sac Back Pack program has been successful in providing summertime meals for nearly 30 families in the Wall Lake, Auburn, Sac City and Lake View areas. Wall Lake City Clerk, Chris Rodman, has been helping with organization of the annual program.

This year, the communities are partnering for a special fundraiser on Saturday, June 3, and they are asking everyone a simple question, “Can-oe help us feed the hungry?” Rodman says Saturday’s event will be taking place in Lake View.

The main items they are looking for are peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, jelly, cereal, paper products and personal hygiene products, and monetary donations are always welcome. Rodman says last year they spent about $2,500 throughout the summer helping these families and they expect to have about the same need this year, possibly even more.

Children from babies to 18 years old are eligible for participation in the back pack program, which officially began when school was released for the summer last Friday. Again, those canoes will be out during the Sip and Sample event and the farmer’s market on the north and south end of Main Street from 9 a.m. to noon, they will then be moved to the pier by the bay at about 4 p.m. and will be there through the Stone Pier concert that night.
