Calhoun County Deputy Involved In High-Speed Pursuit Into Pocahontas County

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office was involved in a high-speed pursuit into Pocahontas County early last week. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 19, a deputy attempted to pull over a 2012 Chevrolet Impala east of Manson on Highway 7 for a traffic violation. The vehicle did not stop, and instead turned north onto Highway 4. The driver, Christopher Glenn Sorenson of Fort Dodge, attempted to make a right-hand turn just two miles south of Pocahontas, when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the north ditch. Sorenson tried to drive the Impala out of the ditch, but struck a field entrance, where the pursuit ended. Sorenson was taken to the Pocahontas Community Hospital by Pocahontas Emergency Medical Services, where he was treated for minor injuries sustained in the accident, and then released. He was then taken into custody on outstanding warrants and also charged with eluding and several other traffic violations, including driving without a valid license, reckless driving, unsafe passing, speeding and a stop sign violation. The incident remains under investigation and more criminal charges are pending laboratory results. The Manson, Rockwell City and Pocahontas Police Departments and the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
