BVU Board Of Trustees Announce Appointment Of 18th President

The Buena Vista University (BVU) Board of Trustees announced today (Monday) that Dr. Joshua D. Merchant has been unanimously approved as their 18th President. Merchant has 19 years of experience in education and currently serves as the vice president of development and alumni engagement with the University of North Florida (UNF) as well as the executive director and CEO of the UNF Foundation. He will be taking the helm on July 1. Trustee chair, Norm Nielsen said, “Dr. Merchant possesses a strategic vision that presses for ever-increasing levels of education quality and student outcomes.” Nielsen went on to say that the board believes Merchant’s inspirational and strength-based leadership style is a good fit for BVU. Merchant said he is excited to become the 18th president for numerous reasons, particularly for the opportunity preserve traditions as well as to build on their strong foundation in creating a new vision for the future in an ever-evolving market landscape. “Together,” Merchant said, “we can set outcome benchmarks to navigate our future and gauge our success.” Merchant and his wife, Carrie, have two school-age children, Elijah and Griffin. Dr. Merchant is replacing Dr. Fred Moore, who has served as BVU’s president since 1995. Moore announced his resignation last September, saying it was a difficult decision, but one that would provide him a closer proximity to close family members and allow him more time to spend with them. His last day will be June 30.  Carroll Broadcasting has reached out to BVU and will bring you more about Dr. Merchant and the transition in an upcoming broadcast.
