Bishop Nickless Grants Special Commutation For Meat Eating On St. Patrick’s Day

Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese, the Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless, has granted a commutation for this Friday’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. He says that in honor of the great saint, “I do hereby commute the obligation of abstaining from meat on St. Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 17.” Nickless says that those who choose to eat meat do “neither wrong nor harm,” as long as they abstain from eating meat on one other day during this week. He added he commends those who still choose to observe the abstinence from meat on Friday and encourages support of local parish fish dinners throughout the diocese.
