One person has died in a single-vehicle accident near Atlantic this morning (Thursday). At approximately 1:44 a.m., the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene at the westbound off ramp on Interstate 80. Thirty-three-year-old Petra Warnick of Lenexa, Kan. was westbound on Interstate 80 in a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway at the off ramp. This was a construction zone and the car vaulted into the air, coming to rest on its side before being engulfed in flames. The incident remains under investigation. Authorities from Cass, Shelby and Audubon Counties and the Atlantic Fire Department assisted at the scene.
