Audubon City Council Request Public Approves Local Sales Tax Authorization In November Ballot

The Audubon City Council has approved a resolution requesting a change to the city’s local sales tax authorization be placed on the ballot for a community vote. If approved, the city would be allowed to use revenue from sales taxes on a much larger range of expenses. City Clerk, Joseph Foran, says the change will make it easier to adjust to unforeseen circumstances.

When the Audubon city code was originally created, the city placed more restriction on themselves than required by the state. They now want to adjust their authorization to be closer to what the state allows. No projects are currently planned that would utilize any freed up funds, but the city council wants to make the change before that situation arises. Foran notes creating a balanced budget will be easier if the vote is passed.

The ballot requires a majority of Audubon voters to approve the sales tax authorization to be changed. The vote takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
