An Auburn woman has been charged after fleeing from authorities while driving drunk. At approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, a deputy with the Sac County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop 54-year-old Diane Wernimont on suspicion of driving while intoxicated on Highway 175 west of Auburn. When the deputy activated the emergency lights, Wernimont took off, traveling through Auburn and then back east on 175. She reached speeds up to 98 miles per hour before being boxed in by law enforcement at the intersection of 370th and Garber Avenue in Calhoun County. Wernimont was transported to the Sac County Jail and charged with eluding, an aggravated misdemeanor, and first offense operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor. She was released after appearing before a magistrate.
