Area Kids Can Join The Youth Triathlon, Just For The Fun Of It

This Memorial Day weekend will bring back the fourth year of a youth athletic challenge to the city of Carroll. Carroll Broadcasting Sports Director, Jeff Blankman, came up with the idea while visiting his brother in Madison, Wisc. and saw about 500 kids participating in a youth triathlon. He brought the idea back to Director of Parks and Recreation, Jack Wardell, and they worked together with the city to organize the event. Recreation Superintendent, McKenzie Kiger, is in her second year with the triathlon that offers a lot of fun for participants and the option of competition.

On Saturday, May 27, participants not only get to swim, bike and run during the event, the $10 registration fee gets them a whole lot more.

Each age group has a different start time, with the six to eight year olds starting first at 9 a.m., the nine to 11 year olds at 10 a.m. and the 12 to 14 at 11 a.m. The swimming has been shortened for the middle age group this year.

Another change for this year will make it easier for parents and other family members and friends to watch the races. On the day of the triathlon, kids need to bring a swimsuit, goggles, comfortable clothes for biking and running as well as their bicycle and helmets. Registration is only $10 and can be done online at the link included below. Kiger says if you are a Rec Center member or have participated in the youth soccer or t-ball programs, you probably have an online account. If you need help accessing that, you can call the Rec Center at 792-5400. Registration forms can also be picked up and dropped off at the Carroll Rec Center. There is a drop box for entries to be placed in after 5 p.m.
