Alta Man Detained By A Witness After Attempting To Commit His Second Assault Of The Evening

An Alta man was arrested after trying to break into a Storm Lake apartment with the intention of committing an assault, his second of the evening. The Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to a disturbance at a party on Superior Street at approximately 9:40 p.m. Wednesday night. When they arrived, there was a person being held on the ground by a witness. The person being detained was identified as 23-year-old Enrique Diaz III. Diaz was intoxicated and bloody and became combative when officers attempted to place him under arrest. Witnesses at the party said Diaz had assaulted a person there, then left and returned later. When he came back, he took the cross bar off of a clothes line and used it to break out a window in the apartment in an attempt to gain entry saying he was going to assault the occupant. A third party tackled Diaz and held him until the police arrived. The victim of the initial assault sustained some minor scratches and contusions but did not require medical attention. Diaz sustained several abrasions, cuts and a bloody nose, but refused medical treatment. Following the investigation, Diaz was charged with first-degree attempted burglary, a class C felony, going armed with intent, a class D felony, assault causing bodily injury and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both serious misdemeanors, interference with official acts and public intoxication, both simple misdemeanors. He was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a $10,000 bond.
