2017 Summer Reading Program Sets Record For Participation

The Carroll Public Library has broken their own record for participation in the 2017 Build a Better World Summer Reading Program for the second time in three years. Final numbers came in at 1,611 people signed up, beating the previous record of 1,573 in 2015. Readers were separated into groups by age: five and under were Rookie readers, kindergarten through fourth grade were Champion readers, fifth through eighth grade were called All-Stars and high school aged and up were Hall of Fame readers. The summer reading program aims to revitalize library patrons’ interest in books and learning by offering a chance at prizes to participants for meeting their goals with awards varying based on which group they are in. Rookie readers were tasked with visiting the library 10 times over the summer. Champions needed to read 25 books or more for an opportunity to win a bicycle, helmet or art party. All-Stars could earn $25 cash or two passes to the aquatic center for next summer by reading 2,500 pages. Hall of Famers also had a goal to read 2,500 pages with their prizes being $100 in Chamber Bucks or movie packages to the Carroll 5 Theatre. Preparations for the 2018 Summer Reading Program are already underway.
