2017 Reading Tree Provides Books To Nearly 100 Underprivileged Kids

The Carroll Public Library’s 2017 Reading Tree Project wrapped up Thursday evening, and the staff is happy to report each child on the tree will receive a book this year. Nearly 100 kids from newborns to five years old will benefit from the Reading Tree this year. Youth Librarian, Diane Tracy, says she cannot thank everybody enough for their support.

She adds that getting children involved in reading at a very young age is one of the best ways to give them an advantage as they head towards school.

Underprivileged kids often do not have the same access to books at a young age compared to most children. The Reading Tree Project was created to address this disparity and has seen success in each year it was held. Books donated through the effort will begin to be delivered next week, and staff has the full intention to host a reading tree again next holiday season.
