As the Carroll County Fair and the Calhoun County Expo get underway this week with attractions for people of all ages, one of the biggest topics of conversation will be the food. The website, Ranker, has polled nearly 18,000 fair-goers to determine the best foods to be found at fairs. The staples, like the classic corn dog, cheese curds and fried pickles all found spots in the top 10, with funnel cake remaining the reigning champion of fair foods at number one. Some newer deep-fried creations have also made that list, with fried mac and cheese landing at number six, deep fried cookie dough at nine and deep fried mashed potatoes on a stick at number seven. And for dessert? Number two of the all-time favorite fair foods is the hot toasted waffle ice cream sandwich…now to decide whether it will be the ever-popular vanilla, or the ladies favorite, chocolate.
