Water Carnival Draws Nearly 20,000 To Lake View For Special Weekend

Since 1952, Lake View has been celebrating their beautiful location on Black Hawk Lake during the third full weekend in July with the Summer Water Carnival. This year marks the 63rd year of the event and City Administrator, Scott Peterson, said the carnival has grown in popularity and is expected to bring about 20,000 people to Lake View for the weekend. They come, he said, because this is much more than just a community festival or fair.

Perhaps the biggest attraction is a twist on a typical celebratory event.

The water parade takes place after dark Saturday night, but the carnival opens tonight (Friday) at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, events will get underway at noon. A traditional street parade will take place downtown at 1 p.m., then visitors will start to migrate to the lake area where all the other activities will take place. Peterson said there is a lot going on throughout the day, including art in the park, a mud volleyball tournament, the Bill Riley talent show along with other games and attractions. This year, there is a new competition coming to the lakeside celebration.

The true draw is the strong tradition of a weekend spent with family and friends in a special place, Peterson said. For more information on the events and activities of the Lake View Water Carnival, follow the link below.
