Vacant Carroll City Council Seat To Be Filled Through Appointment

Carroll Councilman, Brandon Vonnahme, resigned his seat on the council earlier this month on Dec. 15, and the remaining council members have chosen to appoint a replacement rather than hold a special election. The appointed person would hold the seat until the next city election in November 2017. According to City Attorney, David Bruner, the length of term depends on how the council member gains his or her seat.

The vote to appoint a council member was passed unanimously by the board. At-Large Councilman, Jerry Fleshner, says an appointment is the logical choice to fill the vacancy.

The selection is expected to take place at the next council meeting on Jan. 9, 2017. Within 14 days of the appointment, the public can petition the council to hold a special election for the vacant seat. The official public notice is expected to be published this week. If any party is interested in being nominated to fill the seat, they are asked to contact Mayor Eric Jensen or one of the council members
