Upcoming Forum Explores Faith, Climate Change And Agriculture

Iowa Interfaith Power & Light is joining forces with the Center for Rural Affairs, Environmental Law & Policy Center and the Young Evangelicals for Climate Action to host a forum about the connection between faith, climate change and agriculture. The conference will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at the Vogel Community Room in the Learning Commons at Northwestern College in Orange City. The featured panel of speakers includes: Dr. Laura Furlong, Professor of Biology at Northwestern College; Dr. Gene Takle, Director of the Climate Science Program at Iowa State University; Dr. Ron Vos, Professor of Agriculture Emeritus at Dordt College and long-time farmer; and Rev. Joan Fumetti, retired United Church of Christ clergy and former Foods Resource Bank staff. These speakers will focus on how climate change is impacting agriculture in Iowa, how farmers are mitigating and adapting to climate change and share why this issue is so important to them. One goal of this forum, said Rev. Susan Hendershot Guy, executive director of Iowa Interfaith Power & Light, is to highlight the ways Iowans are working toward solutions.
