U.S. Postal Service Doing Extra Holiday Duties With Letters From Santa Program

This is a magical time of year for everyone, particularly children as they look forward to a visit from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. A big part of that magic is the anticipation that accompanies his annual visit. The U.S. Postal Service wants to give all children the opportunity to write letters to Santa Claus and to receive a personal response in return. Step-by-step instructions on how to participate in the Letters From Santa program can be found below. Letters must be postmarked no later than Thursday, Dec. 15.

  • Have the child write a letter, place in envelope and address to: Santa Clause, North Pole
  • Later, when alone, open the envelope and write a personalized response
  • Insert the response letter into the envelope and address it to the child
  • Add the return address to the envelope: Santa, North Pole
  • Affix a first-class stamp to the envelope
  • Place the complete envelope into a larger envelope—preferably a Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope—with appropriate postage and mail it to:
