They are not really considered a local food staple, but Chef David George Gordon, known as the Bug Chef, will be cooking up insects in demonstrations next week at Iowa State University Insect Zoo’s Bug Village. On Saturday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Gordon, author of the “Eat-a-Bug” cookbook will be set up in the Atrium of the Molecular Biology Building on campus and serve up dishes featuring tarantulas, scorpions, grasshoppers and more. The event is free and open to all ages and attendees are invited to tour Bug Village to view more than 80 species of arthropods on display and participate in hands-on activities such as painting with bugs. The new cockroach race track will debut during this event and competitors will be able to suggest track names during the races.
