Coming this Friday is an affair that has become a staple of western Iowa summers. The Highway 141 garage sale will be starting Friday Aug, 5 at 8 a.m. and will continue until late Saturday evening. This year marks the 14th year of the event that was started more than a decade ago by an enthusiastic garage sale fan. Coordinator of the Highway 141 Garage Sale, Linda Curtis, tells us how the event began.
Originally the event was not nearly as long as the current 177-mile route. The beginning route stopped around Manning and Manilla, but this year’s route travels all the way from Grimes to Sloan. They have a webpage that can help sale-goers to find exactly what they need along the route.
The times that each sale is open can also be found on their website. Curtis notes that each sale determines their own hours separately from the parent sale.
She also mentions it is a long trip, and everyone should pay close attention to avoid any accidents while moving between garage sales.
