Teachers Asked To Register Students For Poetry Out Loud Educational Program

Last year, over 570 Iowa high school students from 14 schools across the state overcame their fears of memorization and recitation of poetry in front of their classmates at the Poetry Out Loud arts education program. The program is designed to help students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about their literary heritage. Registration is now open for the 2017 program, and teachers are being encouraged to register their schools by Friday, Dec. 9. Students are asked to participate in local and state recitation contests and the winners will advance to the Poetry Out Loud national finals in Washington, D.C., where they will compete for $50,000 in college scholarships and stipends for their schools.
