Tax Freedom Day Comes Earlier For Iowans

Tax payers got a few-days’ reprieve this year with the deadline being extended to midnight on Monday, April 18. Once they reach that milestone, they can look forward to another on Sunday, April 24, as Tax Freedom Day is recognized. That is 114 days into the calendar year—excluding leap year, that the nonpartisan Tax Foundation says taxpayers have worked to meet their federal, state and local tax burden. This year, Federal revenue collections of $3.34 trillion and state and local taxes of $1.64 trillion will be realized by then. This is the date calculated on a national level, but Iowan’s can breathe a little easier even earlier as the state ranks 14th and residents met their tax burden goal on Thursday, April 14. People in Connecticut have a longer road ahead of them. Ranked 50th, their total won’t be meant until nearly a full month later than the majority of the nation on Saturday, May 21.
