Support For Steckler Family Continues After Tragic Accident

Community members in Audubon have been grief-stricken since the loss of two young boys, eighth-grader, Jamison Steckler, and his fifth-grade brother, Gavin Steckler, in an accident on Saturday, and an outpouring of support has come in for the family from the town and surrounding communities. A friend of the family, Genelle Deist, started a meal train sign-up for community member to assist the family on Monday evening, and the calendar was booked through mid-February in less than 24 hours. Deist says they have stopped taking registration for a time to allow them to organize all the volunteers. Only a short distance away, IKM-Manning schools has a fundraiser for the family planned during their home varsity basketball games against Riverside on Friday, Dec. 16. Donations through them can be made at the game or at the school offices any time before Friday with checks made out to IKM-Manning Schools and “Steckler Family Donation” in the memo line. An account for the family’s benefit has been set up at the Audubon State Bank, and 100 percent of the donations there go back to the Steckler Family. Those donations can be dropped off at the bank or mailed in to the address included below.
