The recent bouts of rain leading up to the Labor Day weekend have had some impact on camping in Iowa’s state parks and recreation areas. Ledges State Park in Boone has had to close Canyon Drive to vehicle traffic as recent heavy rains caused flash flooding, causing the stream to rise to unsafe level. Park visitors are allowed to hike in the canyon area at this time, but advised to use caution and not enter the stream on foot. The campgrounds, trails, other roads, parking lots and both open shelters remain accessible by vehicle. Many campgrounds across the region and state still have sites available for walk-in campers and a select few have sites available for rental.
