State Legislators Being Told By DOT Highway 30 Corridor Is Not A Priority

On Monday, representatives from the Highway 30 Coalition, including newly elected President, Adam Schweers, traveled to the State Capitol to meet with legislators about the need to direct funding toward corridor projects on the two-lane highway. The Coalition’s ultimate goal is the creation of a four-lane highway across the state. At Saturday’s Carroll Chamber Sponsored Legislative Forum, Representative Brian Best and Senator Mark Segebart said they had asked state leaders about the viability of this future project. As a member of the Transportation Committee, Best said he was disappointed with the response.

He said he told the committee that we need a solid infrastructure to support commerce and be able to get goods and services in and out of our communities. However, they said their official stance is that I-80 would be the focus.

Best said he would use whatever means available to him to see that we get treated fairly in this situation. He added there is a program from 2016 to 2020 that would continue to look at Highway 30, but unfortunately, there is no thought put forward to four-laning on the corridor at this time.

Segebart said he had received the same response from DOT Director, Paul Trombino’s office, but Segebart believes that the Carroll area can still have some influence through the Highway 30 coalition.
