St. Anthony Foundation Awards 26 Scholarships

Twenty-six area students from a six county region are sharing $17,500 worth of scholarships from the St. Anthony Foundation. A special ceremony was held on Thursday, May 12 to present the scholarships to students from Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene and Sac Counties who are pursuing professional health care careers. “It is an honor to award our scholarships to deserving students in west central Iowa each year,” said St. Anthony Foundation Development Director, Trish Roberts. “We are grateful to the families and donors who make these scholarships a reality.” A full listing of the 2016 scholarship recipients can be found below.

 

 

The 2016 scholarship recipients include:

  • Haylee Barsby of Westside received the Sharon Staton Peters Memorial Scholarship. She graduated from Manning High School in 2007 and is currently seeking her Master’s Degree as a family nurse practitioner at Clarkson College.
  • Lexie Badding of Carroll, a 2014 Kuemper Catholic High School graduate, was presented the Elizabeth Riedmann Health Care scholarship. Lexie is studying kinesiology with a pre-physician assistant option at Iowa State University.
  • Nicole Dentlinger of Coon Rapids, a 2014 Coon Rapids-Bayard graduate, was the recipient of the Margaret Seidl Health Care Scholarship. Nicole is studying nursing at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).
  • Ragina Doty of Carroll and Sarah Murray of Audubon, both enrolled at DMACC for nursing, received a Dick and Marsha Simons Health Care Scholarship. Ragina is a 2013 graduate of Coon Rapids-Bayard, and Sarah is a 2010 graduate of Audubon High School.
  • Cory Thompson of Carroll, a 2008 graduate of Carroll High School, was awarded the Rick Simons Health Care scholarship. He is attending the University of Iowa for his Bachelor of Science in nursing.
  • Barbara Fennell and Eva Patterson of Carroll and Stacie Venner of Arcadia, were each awarded a Sheryl M. Venner Stoolman Memorial Scholarship. Barbara graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1997 and is studying for her Masters of Science in nursing – family practitioner through Walden University. Eva is a 2005 Carroll High School graduate and attending Kaplan University for her Bachelor of Science in nursing.  Stacie graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 2013 and is attending Grand View University for her nursing degree.

 

Several scholarships were presented at high school awards programs in St. Anthony’s service area. Students awarded a St. Anthony Foundation Scholarship include:

  • Cole Goslar of Denison will be attending Buena Vista University for biology this fall.
  • Taylor Bohm of Wall Lake and a graduate of East Sac County will be attending Iowa Central Community College for radiology.
  • Sara Sparks of Glidden, a Glidden-Ralston High School graduate, plans to attend Central College this fall for athletic training and physical therapy.
  • Jessica Croghan of Templeton and a graduate of IKM-Manning schools will attend DMACC in Ankeny for her nursing degree.
  • Shelby Kingery of Newell, a South Central Calhoun graduate, plans to attend Morningside College to pursue a nursing degree.

 

Other high school scholarship recipients through St. Anthony include:

  • Rachel Gangestad of Vail was the recipient of a Dick Blair Memorial Scholarship. Rachel is an Ar-We-Va graduate and plans to study nursing at Morningside College.
  • Danielle Schultes of Dedham was given the Sarah Keat Danner Health Care Scholarship. Danielle is a Kuemper Catholic High School graduate and plans to study social work at the University of Northern Iowa.
  • Tiffany Theulen, a Kuemper Catholic High School graduate, was awarded the Susan D. Ludwig Healthcare Scholarship. Tiffany, of Halbur, plans to study pre-med at the University of Iowa this fall.
  • Kourtney Mead, a Carroll High School graduate, received a Helen M. Schmitz Memorial Scholarship. Kourtney, of Carroll, will be attending Morningside College for nursing.
  • Kendra Peter of Carroll received the Bob and Mary Lou Ware Memorial Scholarship. She will graduate from Kuemper this May and is attending DMACC for her nursing degree.
  • Jorrie Esslinger, a Coon Rapids-Bayard graduate, was the recipient of the Mary Thaler Yates Memorial Scholarship. Jorrie, of Coon Rapids, will be studying to be a medical lab technician at DMACC in Ankeny.

 

Several scholarships were also presented on behalf of the St. Anthony Auxiliary. Students awarded a St. Anthony Auxiliary Scholarship include:

  • Taylor Neumann of Carroll, is a 2016 Carroll High School graduate and will be attending DMACC for respiratory therapy or nursing.
  • Brittany Groom-Klocke of Carroll, and a 2016 graduate of Kuemper Catholic, will be enrolled at DMACC for nursing this fall.
  • Katherine England of Audubon, and a 2010 graduate of Audubon High School, attends DMACC for her advanced degree of nursing.
  • Sarah Douglas of Glidden, a 2003 graduate of Carroll High School, is attending DMACC for nursing.
  • Tara Kane of Carroll, a 1996 Kuemper Catholic High School graduate, is attending DMACC for nursing.

 

In addition to the St. Anthony scholarships awarded, Sara Roth, St. Anthony Emergency Department Director, received the Iowa Hospital Association IHERF (Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation) Scholarship for the second year in a row and was recognized at the ceremony. Sara is a 2005 graduate of Wall Lake-Lake View-Auburn schools and is attending Chamberlain for her Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.
