Soil And Water Conservation Week Begins Sunday

This week is Soil and Water Conservation Week, and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, said this is an opportunity to celebrate all the work that has been done and highlight the efforts currently underway to prevent erosion and improve water quality. Activities and educational events will be taking place across the state from Sunday, April 24, to Sunday, May 1. Gov. Branstad will sign a proclamation to kick off the week and he and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will visit Iowa State University on Monday, April 25, to receive updates on the work being done by the Nutrient Research Center.  On Thursday, April 28, Northey will be visiting Storm Lake to participate in a groundbreaking at a new Water Quality Initiative Urban project that will convert old lime lagoons into storm water treatment wetlands. The Iowa Soybean Association will also be recognizing the week by highlighting the ongoing work in conservation and watersheds across the state. They will take to Twitter and Facebook to provide information and access to articles on soil health, conservation, profitability, mapping and drainage.
