Simpson College Poll Shows Trump With Lead

The newly formed Red America, Blue America, or RABA, Research Group at Simpson College shows Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, holding a slim, three-point, lead over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton at 44 to 41 percent. Libertarian, Gary Johnson, is reported at 5 percent while Green Party nominee, Jill Stein, and independent, Evan McMullin, each hold two percent. Six percent of those surveyed in the poll were still undecided. This lead shows a small expansion from the last Simpson College RABA Research poll conducted from Sept. 6 through Sept. 8, in which Trump held a one-point lead. “Donald Trump’s base is sticking with him, even after the recent tape revealing his lewd comments about women,” said Kedron Bardwell, chair of the Simpson political science department. “His lead with non-college voters and men surpasses Clinton’s lead with college-educated voters and women.” Bardwell predicts that if the GOP turnout holds up, those groups will be key to the party’s chances in Iowa. The statewide poll of 1,076 likely voters was taken Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, after the latest revelations from the FBI concerning the Clinton emails.
