There are only a few days left to show your school pride with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) themed nursery packets. Cyclone, Hawkeye and Panther fans can order trees catered to their favorite school and promote conservation at the same time. “As alumni and fans, we can’t really impact the outcome of football, basketball, wrestling or other competitions between our schools,” says State Forester, Paul Tauke, “However, by purchasing and planting a Hawk, Cyclone or Panther fan packet, we can improve Iowa’s environment and win conservation bragging rights for our school.” The Hawkeye theme comes with 100 black cherry and hackberry seedlings. Cyclones get 100 red oak and northern pecans and Panther fans can purchase 100 aroniaberry and hackberry seedling. To take advantage of the DNR’s school themed offer, call the State Forest Nursery at 1-800-865-2477 and mention your favorite team. Purchases must be made by Wednesday, Nov. 30. At the end of the month, the DNR will announce which school’s fans have put the most effort into wildlife habitat and conservation.
