Sheriff Doug Bass To Be Honored By American Legion As Iowa’s Law Enforcement Officer Of The Year

On Monday, Feb. 8, the American Legion in Arcadia will be hosting a special, invitation-only event to honor Carroll County Sheriff, Doug Bass. Finance Officer for the Legion, Ralph Lampman said they are all pleased that Bass has been selected by their organization as the Iowa Law Enforcement Officer of the year.

There were six applications received from across the state, and Lampman said that credit for a lot of the leg-work in getting their application in order goes to the Carroll County Chief Deputy Ken Pingrey.

The local American Legion has invited members from the surrounding areas as well as state officers to this special local ceremony on Monday night. Bass will be honored again in July at the state American Legion Conference in Coralville. Lampman added that the original application has been passed on and there is the possibility that another award may be in Sheriff Bass’ future.

Sheriff Bass announced his retirement last month after 43 years of service to the Carroll County Sheriff’s office. An open house in his honor will be held at the Carroll County Courthouse on his birthday, Monday, March 14. Bass’ retirement is effective March 15.
