Several Vehicles Did Not Fare Well In Greene County Over The Weekend

It was a rough weekend for vehicles in Greene County, as the Greene County Sheriff’s Office reports two deer accidents and a vehicle fire. On Friday, Nov. 4, at approximately 6:44 p.m., they responded to the 2400 block of Neola Ave. south of Jefferson. A 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by 36-year-old John J. Plaisance of Waukee, was northbound on Neola when a deer ran onto the roadway and struck his vehicle. Plaisance and three other passengers were uninjured, but his vehicle sustained an estimated $6,000 in damages. Just a few minutes later, at 6:56 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to another accident in the 500 block of Highway 144, in Grand Junction. A 2005 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by 63-year-old Ricki Lee Pirie of Fort Dodge, was southbound on Highway 144, when a deer again ran into the roadway and struck the vehicle. Pirie was not injured but his vehicle sustained an estimated $15,000 in damages. On Saturday, Nov. 5 at approximately 5:34 p.m., the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Scranton Fire Department were dispatched to a vehicle on fire along the roadway in the 300 block of 225th Street east of Ralston. The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck, registered to Shane Butler, was a total loss.
