Sac County Landfill Has Ceased Landfill Operations

Where our garbage goes is not a question many of us think deeply on except when we miss pick-up day. For residents of Sac County, this has become a concern with the announcement that the Sac County Landfill Commission decided to cease landfill operations. Chair of the Sac County Solid Waste Agency and a Sac County Supervisor, Dean Stock, says regulations created difficulties.

At the Sac County landfill location, a transfer site is currently under construction and is estimated to be complete by the end of September. Residents can still transport waste to the old site at a tipping fee of $53 per ton. Stock expects those costs to rise in the next few years but drop again.

Despite all the changes, he says very little will change to the average Sac County citizen.

The transfer site will also accept appliances for a $15 fee. TVs and computer monitors are also allowed for 50 cents per pound. The landfill site will still keep its normal working hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
