The Iowa State Patrol is currently investigating a single-vehicle accident which happened shortly after 11 a.m. Monday, April 11. The crash occurred on County Road M68, also known as Delta Avenue, south of Highway 30 near 245th Street. For unknown reasons, a 2003 Kenworth truck, driven by 39-year-old Michael Mackedanz of Sac City, left the roadway and entered the east ditch. The southbound truck traveled through the ditch, striking a creek bank where it then came to a rest. When authorities arrived at the scene they had to free Mackedanz from the vehicle by mechanical means. He was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Management Services and later air-lifted for treatment of unknown injuries. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Halbur, Manning and Arcadia Fire Departments assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene. The truck is owned by Wirtjers Trucking of Sac City.
