Ruggles And Konkler On Ballot For Tuesday’s Carroll County Primary Election

Primary elections across the country, the state and throughout the county will be taking place on Tuesday, June 7, and for Carroll County local government races, there is only one that will be on the ballot. Two Republicans, Richard Ruggles and Tony Konkler are both running for the District 5 Supervisor seat that will be vacated by Mark Beardmore. Both candidates have said they have the time, energy and commitment to do a great job for the county, and both answered community questions at a Carroll Chamber of Commerce forum in April. Ruggles and Konkler discussed budgeting and allocation of tax dollars when asked what role the Local Option Sales Tax Fund, that currently exceeds $1.3 million, should play in the future. Ruggles said though the fund numbers seem high, he knows it fluctuates with need.

Konkler said he believes it can be spread out throughout the county.

Oversight in county government is not just about allocating funds towards meeting the basic needs of a community. Questions came in to the candidates regarding facilities or activities that they may possibly champion during their tenure as a supervisor. Konkler said it would have to be a team effort to determine the priorities.

Ruggles said he sees an opportunity to offer more amenities that are tied to the growing health and fitness trend.
