The Jefferson Police Department evacuated residences in the 200 block of East Madison Street in Jefferson yesterday afternoon at approximately 12:56 p.m. after a private concrete contractor struck and ruptured a gas line with excavating equipment. Alliant Energy also responded and was able to seal the broken line.
